Eglantine Herbs

Jeni Rankin trained as a general and paediatric nurse in Glasgow's busy teaching hospitals. Later she lived and worked in East Africa with her husband and young family.

She grew up in  rural Ayrshire surrounded by wild and cultivated plants. She has always had a garden of some sorts; having followed her father around the greenhouses and gardens at home. Her grandmother used to point out healing plants but she did not realise the significance of this at the time. Her interest in Natural Medicine was rekindled while in Sudan and Tanzania as she watched mothers unable to afford medicine, use the leaves and roots of various plants to treat their children.

After returning to the UK,  Jeni again worked as a nurse but her interest in Herbal Medicine continued to develop. Finally she studied at the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine gaining an Honours degree in Herbal Medicine and diplomas in aromatic and holistic massage.

Jeni feels that both disciplines enhance her work as a Medical Herbalist. Although she no longer practices as a nurse, the skills and experience gained while nursing children and adults, her overseas experience and caring for her own family, well equip her for the challenges associated with an independent herbal medicine setting.

The ethos of the practice is to be environmemtally friendy with a low-carbon footprint. She practices organic gardening and seeks to grow endangered herbs for her own use rather than using wild-crafted herbs. Organic herbs, macerated oils and essential oils are used wherever possible. She has sourced local glass suppliers and recycles where possible. We have also sourced biopackaging and seek to use reusable calico bags.
